It is mandatory to give weekly break not less than two days after five consecutive working days in line with Article 71 of the Labour Code, the Ministry of Manpower has said on Tuesday. The ministry was responding to a question on the social media based on an internal policy of a private company to impose one-day weekly off for its employees, irrespective of the contract terms.
The ministry added that there is an exception if the employer and the same worker agree on a compensation that is double wages for that day.. The decision issued by the employer is otherwise invalid because it violates the labor law and the worker must file a complaint against the establishment.
